Sylvia Inez Holmes

Sylvia Inez Mathews-Holmes passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona.

Inez was born in a cotton field in Eloy, Arizona, a beginning that reflected the strength and humility she carried throughout her life.

She found joy in the simple, meaningful things-baking for those she loved and getting lost in a good book. Her kitchen and her stories were places of warmth, comfort, and love.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, B. W. and Carrie Mae Mathews, and all nine of her cherished siblings.

Inez is survived by her three daughters, Marla Delaine, Denise Renee, and Kimberly Sue; her seven grandchildren, Nicholl Danielle, Zachary Daniel, Victoria Lynn, Jayson Paul, Johnathan David, Michael Anthony, and Christopher Lee; and her eleven great-grandchildren.

She is also lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Darlene Mathews, her brother-in-law, Delhart Dugan, and dozens of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Affectionately known as "Sibby," she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
