Shad “Shadtoe” Williams Jr was born on October 8, 1938 in Cottonton Alabama to Shad and Elizabeth (Johnson) Williams. He was the 5th of 12 siblings. Shad is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Author, Eddie, Melvin, Annie Mae Williams Johnson. With us today are brothers, Henry Williams of Florida, Johnny Williams of Georgia and sisters, Mary Williams-Johnson of Georgia, Dorothy Williams of South Carolina, Irene Tommie Williams-Johnson of Georgia, Betty Jean Leroy Williams-Kelly of New Jersey, Ann Elizabeth Williams-Mitchell of Florida and Betty Williams of Louisiana.
Shad gained his informal education in Alabama, moving to Arizona as a young adult in 1956 where he worked various jobs in the lumber and labor industry. He began his lifelong career in the construction and trucking industry in the early 1970’s, becoming a member of the Arizona Laborers and Teamsters Union. As a Teamster, he worked for various companies responsible for the construction of major buildings, roads and highway projects throughout the State of Arizona/Nevada. Shad was considered a “jack of all trades” and very skilled with all aspects of building construction and protection and was called upon to assist the Flagstaff Fire Department with the Northern Arizona Wildfire efforts in the 1980’s. Later becoming a dedicated Mason engaging in various activities including charitable work, community service and personal development through fraternal fellowship.
After retirement he began working independently as a Craftsmen. As he settled into retirement he enjoyed spending time with family, the outdoors, camping, fishing and cooking. He was blessed to have a green thumb and grew vegetables in his garden every spring, for many years.
At an early age, Shad accepted God into his life as his Lord and Savior, joining the Church of God & Christ. As an adult he continued his love for the Lord, helping to build church, Harbor Chapel and serving on the Deacon Board. Although, Shad was a member of several different churches during his life, he found his church home at Riverside C.O.G.I.C, under the leadership of Pastor Leonard Bryant. Since moving to the Camp Verde area, Shad was unable to locate a new church home so he continued his independent practice and study of the Bible until his passing on May 24, 2024. He continued to attend Riverside C.O.G.I.C when in the Flagstaff area.
Shad is survived by wife of 26 years, Linda and leaves to cherish his memory, children: Phillip Williams of Boca Raton Florida, grandchildren Pryll and Valances; and daughter, Monique Williams of Tolleson Arizona, granddaughter Mikayla.
