Ronald Dean Hiebert (Ron), 80, of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his
sleep Monday, June 1, 2026. He was born in Clinton, Oklahoma on April 16, 1946, to
the late Albert and Frieda Hiebert. He had a productive career as a researcher,
professor, and journal editor with hundreds of citations of his articles. He worked to
improve natural areas and help endangered species in the U.S. and abroad with the
National Park Service and was a master gardener in his free time. He served his
country in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Renee, Lindsey, and Cassie; sons-in-law
Scott Bossel; his grandchildren, Avery, Arlo, Bechler, Juniper, Gage, Lily, and Jase. He
is also survived by his sisters Marcia and Linda. He is preceded in death by his parents;
daughter Lisa; and sister Roma Jean. His ashes will be spread in Cedar Breaks, Utah
on July 21.
