Phyllis Jean Deveau
July 17, 1928 – November 16, 2025
Phyllis Jean Deveau, 97, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025. Born in
Evanston, Illinois, on July 17, 1928, daughter of Edgar N. Fletcher and Ruby Maxwell
Fletcher. She grew up in Des Plaines, IL where she first developed the creativity and
curiosity that would shape her life.
A 1946 graduate of Maine Township High School East, Phyllis continued her education
at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, earning a degree in dress design in 1949. Her
natural flair for fashion remained a lifelong passion, complemented by her talents as a
master gardener and her love of interior design. Phyllis brought beauty, harmony, and
intention to every space she touched.
Phyllis married, Jack E. Deveau, with whom she shared 57 devoted years until his
passing. They raised their family in Rockford, Illinois, creating a warm and loving home.
Later in life, Phyllis was blessed with love and companionship again when she married
Theodore “Ted” Mularz, whom she cherished for eight years until his passing in
February 2025.
In later years, Phyllis embraced new chapters in North Carolina and Oregon before
settling in Sedona, Arizona in 2022.
In Sedona, she found joy in the community at Sedona Winds Independent Living, where
she made dear friends and delighted in bingo, musical events, and spirited pinochle
games. Her joyful presence, quick wit, and ready smile endeared her to many.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her second husband Ted; her
parents; Edgar N. Fletcher and Ruby Maxwell Fletcher; her brother, Jim Fletcher;
nephew Craig Robertson and her beloved dog, Nelly.
She is survived by her sister Jeanette Robertson; her children, Todd Deveau (Patty) and
Cristine McPhail (Bruce); her grandchildren, Chad McPhail (Roger), T.C. Deveau
(Hannah), Rebecca Smith (Austin), Patrick Deveau (Cortney), and Andy Campbell
(Janel); her step-children Annie (Mark) McCune and Mark Mularz; her niece, Jen Bland;
and seven great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.
Phyllis will be laid to rest at Eagle Point Cemetery in Oregon, a peaceful resting place
befitting a life lived with grace, creativity, and love.
Her family will forever remember her warmth, her artistic spirit, and the kindness she
shared so freely with all who knew her.
