Philip R. Edwards
Born January 18, 1936 in Danville, IL to Asa A. Edwards and Mildred Jane Kromer Edwards. He passed peacefully on June 30, 2024 at 5:30 PM with his wife Judy of 50 years and his daughter Devin holding his hands.
He graduated from Danville High School (IL) in 1955, graduated from Mesa Community College and attended Arizona State University in the 1970’s. He was an 8 year veteran of the Army Reserve in Danville, IL and a member of the American Legion.
If you knew Phil, you already know his love of cars, guns, radios of any type, RV’ing and telling stories (some of which were true). One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming an amateur licensed radio operator in 1994 and later achieving a general class operators license. His sense of humor, smile and laughter were key aspects of his personality. He loved playing games with friends and family and is well known for hexing his opponents and friendly name calling (mostly that people were “cheater-butts”). Phil loved music, was a fabulous dancer in his youth, and graced many church choirs with his bass voice. He most recently was a member of The Cross Church of Cornville, AZ.
Surviving is his wife, Judith A. McCord Edwards, daughter Devin Shawn Edwards (TX), and the Wright children: Rodney J. Wright (AZ), Teresa L. Corless (AZ), Joseph M. Wright (TX) and V. Paul Wright (CO). Also surviving is his sister Jane Culp (AL), sister Mary Ruwe (OK), brother Robert Edwards (MO), several nephews and nieces and many friends from over the years. Preceded in death were his parents, brothers Asa, Thomas, Kenneth and sister Margaret Wonderlin.
