Nelda Jo Poleyquiva, 87, of Camp Verde, AZ, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.She was born in Bethel, Oklahoma, on March 17th, 1937, to Hoyt and Marrell Kirk, but has called Arizona home since she was 3 years old.
Nelda owned the original riding stables in Lake Montezuma, AZ, and was one of the original founding members of the Camp Verde Saddlebags. She won countless trophies and ribbons for the showing of her beloved horses. In addition to showing horses, she also worked for Babbits and Bashas for many years until her retirement. Above all, Nelda loved spending time with her family and cooking for her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyt and Marvell Kirk; her son, Charlie Pitts Jr.; her sister Louise Moore; and her brother Thomas Kirk. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Clayton Poleyquiva, her daughter Jeanette (Rick) Helgerson of Camp Verde, and her daughter Kathy Kay (David) Ashford of Camp Verde, and 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
