Leslie Norman Hammond, 96 of Camp Verde, Arizona passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of January 22, 2026, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born August 24, 1929 in Dryhead, Montana to the late Charles Lewis and Evea Mae Hammond. He married Laura Charlotte Howard on September 7, 1956 and resided in Gardiner, Montana for a short time before moving to the San Diego, California area for the winter. The short visit turned into a 10 year stay before choosing to move to Camp Verde in June of 1966. He worked as an auto mechanic, buying the business in 1968, naming it H & W Auto Service, which served the community and supported his family until 1983 when he sold the business and went to work as an auto mechanic for CV Garage. He worked there for approximately 3 years before semi-retiring. He then worked from home doing only the work he chose to do and enjoyed. He worked in some fashion until he was 82 and then he fully retired. He enjoyed spending his remaining days with his bride, his large family, and his dogs. He enjoyed good health until the final 2 months of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and a grandson.
Leslie (Les) is survived by Laura, his wife of 69 years, 6 children, Harold Hammond (Fonda), Carrie Justice (John D.), Robert Hammond (Evelyn), Donald Hammond (Lani), Charlotte Gresham (Steve) and David Hammond. From his children he was blessed with 13 grandchildren as well as 13 great grandchildren. Most of his family lived close to him in the Camp Verde area.
Services will be held at 10am,Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Parkside Church where he was a member. He will be laid to rest at Clear Creek Cemetery.
