John Ray Floyd, a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, son, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024.
Born on February 3, 1945, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, John was a third-generation farmer in Dyer County, where he developed a lifelong love for farming and a remarkable green thumb. He could grow anything and took immense pride in his ability to turn a stump into a tree.
In 1965, at the age of 20, John enlisted into the Army. John served his country with honor in the 101st Airborne and the 25th Infantry Division. Earning his Parachutist Badge, Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge, and Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge. John is a retired combat veteran of The Vietnam War with several declarations; including the National Defense Service Medal, 2 Overseas Services Bars, Vietnam Service Medal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
Shortly after returning home, he met the love of his life, Charlotte Rhoda, and they were married in 1969. Together, they built a wonderful life for their six children, filled with camping trips, hunting adventures, lake outings, and peaceful days spent in the forest. John cherished watching his children grow and instilled in them a love for the outdoors.
In addition to raising their children, John and Charlotte warmly opened their home to 49 foster children over the years, truly becoming a father to many.
John also had a passion for mechanics and spent countless hours tinkering with automobiles. He pursued his education and earned his ASE certification, ultimately becoming the Supervisor of Transportation at Northern Arizona University, where he retired after 28 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Floyd and Sylvia Walton, and his siblings; Sally Smith, Lyda Dew, Donald Floyd, Mary Ann Phillips, Lillie Haycraft, Johnny “Buddy” Floyd. Survived by sibling; Lucille Hale.
John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Charlotte Floyd; his children, John Floyd II (Tammy), Jolene Moya (Tony), James Floyd (Julia), Julie Floyd, Jesse Floyd (Kayelee) and Josh Floyd (Sylvia), eleven grandchildren; Gage Moya (Shaya), Kiersten Floyd, Gavin Floyd, Trey Moya (Kendra), Mason Floyd, Wyatt Floyd, Alyssa Moya (Braden), Faith Floyd, Sophie Floyd, Brealeigh Smith, Charlise Floyd, and one great-grandchild, Ronin Ray Moya.
