John Dwight Carmichael was born May 12, 1944 in Alameda, California and passed away in Cornville, Arizona on February 26, 2026. He was the son of Mary Marcia LaRue and John Dwight Harris Carmichael, and the younger brother of Marcia Jean "Sunny" Piersall, who predeceased him in 2004. The Carmichael family moved to San Diego, California in the 1950's, and John attended Hilltop High School, followed by four years of service in the US Air Force. John studied electronics, worked for Xerox, operated a fiberglass auto body shop (Fiberkit) in National City and eventually moved to Sedona, Arizona. He was married to Cecily Cleveland from 1967 to 1974, and was in a long-term relationship with Gloria "Jean" Joslyn Carmichael for many years. In Sedona, John became a skilled craftsman and built many lovely homes in the Oak Creek and Sedona area. His talent, intelligence, and quality of workmanship were always in demand in the housing industry. John also loved his hobbies of building and flying model airplanes and model rockets, and he made Indian-style turquoise jewelry as well. He continued working as a contractor up until age 80. He lived the last several years in the Oak Creek Valley community in Cornville where he loved to walk by the creek as often as he could. He is survived by his nephew, Lance-Robert, of San Diego, CA and his niece, Cathy McGeary, of El Cajon, CA, his two grandnephews, Sean and Trevor McGeary, and his first cousin Richard "Dick" Kirby of Rancho Bernardo, CA. He is fondly remembered by his family and his dear friends.
