Jean Clark Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Mary Clark, who left this earth on April 3, 2025, in Cottonwood, Arizona, to join her preceding loved ones.

Jean was born on January 30, 1939, in Port Henry, New York, to Bernice and Orlo Gregory. One of six children, Jean grew up in Port Henry, just across from Lake Champlain—home of Champ, the Lake Monster—where she cherished weekend family drives and picnics. She proudly remembered sharing meals and stories of her childhood and was especially fond of Michigan Hot Dogs.

In high school, Jean was a valedictorian and was crowned prom queen. She also earned a scholarship to the Women’s Teacher College. In 1950, while working at Frontier Town theme park, she met the love of her life, Mitchell David Clark, and they were married soon after. Jean’s greatest pride was being a devoted mother to their six children. In 1976, the family relocated to Cottonwood, Arizona.

Jean worked in retail at Verde Lea Market and Yellow Front, then as Manager of Woody’s Gas Stations, before later joining Oovah’s Smoke Shop, where she continued to work until her retirement. In her later years, she dedicated her time to her family, cherishing moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she enjoyed watching sports—especially tennis—with enthusiasm.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell David Clark; her parents, Bernice and Orlo Gregory; and her sisters, Patricia Ann Gregory and Joan Colburn.

She is survived by her three daughters—Mickey Elmer of Camp Verde, Chris Hansen (Denny) of Prescott Valley, and Tammy Leonard (Eric) of Phoenix; her sons—Greg Clark (Sarah) of Cottonwood, Lonnie Clark of Camp Verde, and William Clark (Andrea) of Cottonwood; her brother, Edward Gregory; her sisters, Debbie Gibbs and Suzie Houck; as well as 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Tunnels for Towers at donationsupport@t2t.org.
