James G. Fuller Jr., known to family and friends, as Jim, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the age of 87. Jim was born in El Paso, Texas, on August 12, 1938, to James (Dick) and Hazel Fuller. Jim’s childhood was spent in Shreveport, Louisiana and Las Cruces, New Mexico.
After attending high school in Las Cruces, Jim graduated from New Mexico State University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
Jim’s interest in aerospace and engineering began one summer working on telemetry signals at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The career path that Jim chose proved to be rewarding and challenging. In 1962, with Jim’s interest and education, he was hired as a Process Engineer by Hercules Inc. for propulsion products in Salt Lake City. He was soon assigned to act as the Hercules representative at Brunswick Corporation’s Marion, Virginia operation. Brunswick, under Jim’s watch, perfected the art of manufacturing filament wound rocket motor cases related to the Polaris submarine launched missile project. In 1972 as a recognized leader in propulsion and filament winding, Jim was employed directly by Brunswick in Lincoln, Nebraska where he held a variety of technical and Program Management positions. Jim had a unique aptitude for technology and team building. His assignments and the departments he led were responsible for the design, development, testing and manufacture of many aerospace propulsion components over four decades. In 1990 Jim became the General Manager of operations in Camden, Arkansas and returned to Lincoln as the President of the Lincoln plant in 1993. He retired from the Lincoln Operation in 1999.
In retirement, Jim and his wife, Mary, settled in Fort Collins, Colorado where Jim enjoyed golfing, hiking, oil painting and traveling the world. In 2019 they relocated to Sedona, AZ to be near family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary, and their children, Alison Fuller of Sedona, AZ, and Amy Elizabeth (Mike) Yard of Cornville, AZ. Jim had one grandchild, Claudia DiMartini of Flagstaff, AZ.
A remembrance celebration will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your local food bank, or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
