Irene Aunon

Irene Aunon, age 55, passed away on April 14, 2025, at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. A daughter of the late Joseph L.H. Aunon and Maria A. Grzetic-Aunon, she was born on June 6th, 1969, in Albany, New York. She is survived by her two brothers, Alexander Aunon and Martin Aunon, and by her sister, Patricia Burch.

Irene moved with her family from the US to live in Argentina when she was 11 years old. In Argentina, she studied violin, piano, German, and went to school. She attended and graduated high school in Mendoza (Argentina) in 1998. She then went on to attend the National University of Cuyo Medical School in Mendoza, Argentina, for three years. She then had to abruptly stop her medical studies and come back to the United States to attend to a family illness.

While living in Argentina, she traveled throughout the country extensively and even traveled in Chile. When she came back to the United States to live with her family, first in Iowa, and then in Arizona, she attended Nursing school for two years. She graduated with an Associate degree of arts at Yavapai College in 2007. She worked as a certified nursing assistant for 6 years. She also studied on the side, through correspondence courses, paralegal and medical transcription, which she graduated with certificates.

Irene loved to travel, and had the privilege to travel to many parts of the US, Canada, and Europe. She spoke three languages: Spanish, Slovenian (her mother’s native language), and of course, English. She loved her cats, teddy bears and loved to collect books. Irene struggled with mental health throughout her adult life. She also loved to help all those in need around her. Irene will be missed.

Her Funeral Mass service will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Camp Verde on Monday, April 28th, 2025 at 11 AM.
