Evelyn Rogers Obituary

Evelyn Manning Rogers, long time resident of Clarkdale, died June 11, 2008. She was the daughter of Robert Edward and Zella (Johnson) Manning; born Oct. 29, 1935, in Gilbert, the youngest of six children. Evelyn enjoyed cooking, was a wonderful cook, and many residents of the valley have enjoyed meals and treats from her kitchen over the many years. She was well known for her homemade bread, hot rolls, and sugar cookies. She worked in a sewing factory before she married, and did babysitting, in her home, while raising her children. She was also the assistant cook at the old Senior Citizens Center in Cottonwood for a few years. Those who ate there enjoyed some new dishes, and the head cook was always surprised when everyone loved the new ways she used surplus squash. Evelyn was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked in most of the church organizations during her life. She had a strong belief in her Church and her Savior Jesus Christ. She enjoyed many crafts, sewing for her children, baking, and walks in nature. She was a loving mother who taught her children the skills needed to take care of themselves once they left the nest. She leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Locy M. Rogers (the Bee Man), a legacy of five children, Linda Rogers of Mesa, George (Jaimie) Rogers of Arizona, Mark (Linda) Rogers of Nampa, Idaho, Sandra (Mike) McConeghy of Fair Oaks, Calif., Dustin (Kristi) Rogers of Laveen, Ariz., 11 grandchildren, and her sister Florence Mann of St. David, Ariz.; along with many extended family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at the LDS church building at 1377 Hombre Drive (in Cottonwood) on Saturday, June 28th at 2:00 pm.
