Douglas S. Hersey, age 98, died on August 20th at home surrounded by all his loved ones. He was born in Redding California on March 3rd 1925 to Roy and Leota Hersey and was the youngest of three children. Doug enlisted in the Air Force on June 20th 1943 and served in World War II as a Right Waist Gunner on the B-17. He was a member of the Sedona United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and never missed a Sunday service. He was an extremely talented musician who had a life long love of playing the saxophone. He was proceeded in death by his parents Roy and Leota Hersey, his wife Wanda Hersey, his brother Eugene Hersey, his sister Ynez Campbell, his daughters Joanna Gilder and Karen Keaveny, his grandson Alex Keaveny and many friends. Doug will be remembered as an honorable man who loved his country and dedicated his life to serving Jesus Christ. He is survived by his daughter Ellen Martinez (Eddie) of Casa Grande, his son Brian Hersey of Arizona City, His 10 grandkids, 24 great grandkids, and 3 great great grandkids. Private services for family and close friends will be held on August 31st at 9 AM in Cave Creek, AZ and burial will follow at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
