Carol Gertrude Voigt
August 21st, 1940 – February 22nd, 2026
Carol Voigt was born in Gallup, New Mexico on August 21st, 1940 and passed away from a hard battle with Parkinson’s Disease on February 22nd, 2026 in Camp Verde, AZ surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Mary & Frank Caviggia. Carol graduated from Gallup Cathedral High School in 1959. She was a devout Catholic. Carol attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New Mexico and graduated with her Elementary Teaching Degree. Her first teaching job was at Thoreau Elementary School in Thoreau, New Mexico.
While Carol was teaching she met the love of her life, Leroy Voigt, and they married on April 11th, 1963 in Gallup, New Mexico. They resided in Grants, New Mexico for several years. Carol taught school while Leroy ran a gas station. Their first child, Keith Voigt was born on August 14th, 1967 and their second child, Daria Weir, was born on June 20th, 1969. When Daria was six months old, Carol’s dad, Frank Caviggia offered for them to buy Navajo Feed Store in Gallup and they agreed. They moved to Gallup and owned and operated Navajo Feed Store. Carol stayed at home to raise her children. Upon retirement they moved to Sun City, Arizona. After her husband Leroy’s death, Carol moved to Camp Verde, Arizona and was very involved in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives.
Carol was active in the community serving as a 4-H Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Bi-County Fair Board, attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Gallup, and many more.
Carol is survived by her children, Daria Weir (Bob), Keith Voigt (Ruby), sisters Marlene & Beverly Caviggia, Grandchildren Chance Weir, Danya Weir (Jake), Elgia Begay, and Dustin Begay (Santae), John Chen (Yalu), and her great grandchildren Ivan, Alex, Odin, Ben, Isla, Clayton, Cole, Kaydem, Orion, AJ, Quentin, Sarai and Yutan Chen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Voigt, her parents, Frank & Mary Caviggia and her brother Larry Caviggia.
Services for Carol Voigt
A Rosary will be held on Friday, April 24th at 6pm and a Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 25th at 10:30am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 3408 Zia Drive, Gallup, NM. A reception with food will follow the Mass on Saturday in the Parish Hall at St. John Vianney Church. A burial will be at Prescott National Veteran’s Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona on Monday, April 27th at 10am, 500 Arizona – 89, Prescott, AZ where Carol will live eternity with her beloved husband Leroy.
